Peter Obi raises alarm over fake online endorsements using his name

Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has raised an alarm over the unauthorised use of his name and image to promote online businesses, warning Nigerians against falling for such fraudulent schemes.

In a statement posted on X on Thursday, Obi said several persons and online platforms have continued to misuse his identity despite earlier cautions, stressing that he has no connection whatsoever with any profit-driven venture.

“At no time have I authorised any individual, business, or online platform to use my name, image, or identity for commercial purposes,” he stated, describing such actions as “deceptive and aimed at exploiting public trust.”

The former Anambra State governor urged members of the public to rely only on information released through his verified official handles and to exercise caution when encountering suspicious adverts or endorsements.

Obi’s latest warning comes amid a surge in impersonation and online fraud cases in Nigeria, with some scammers using AI-generated images and deep-fake technology to promote fake endorsements.
