Peter Ojabo: Benue rep, Francis Ottah Agbo reacts as army abandons Idoma-born soldier who fell ill while fighting Boko Haram in Borno

The lawmaker representing Benue South Senatorial District, Francis Ottah Agbo, has reacted to the report that LCPL Peter Ojabo, a soldier who was abandoned by Nigerian military after falling ill while fighting the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.

IDOMA VOICE reports that Ojabo, who hailed from, Opialu-Edumoga in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, was deployed to Monguno in Borno State in 2013 to fight Boko Haram killers where he eventually fell ill and had to return home from the battlefield.

IDOMA VOICE gathered that Ojabo was diagnosed of multiple myeloma (bone marrow cancer)

He is currently at Jos University Teaching Hospital.

Amazingly, he has been responsible for his treatments all these years with a salary of NGN57,000 without any support from the military.

Reacting to the sad news, Agbo described the development as sad and shocking.

He said if the report is confirmed to be true, the Nigerian military will be asked to do the needful.

He wrote, “First, he took ill as a soldier in his boot. The Army is statutorily supposed to pick his bills. Am sad they, according to your report, abandoned him. My dad was a soldier, he took ill while fighting the civil war, and the Army footed his medical bills. If the Army failed to treat him then we must make them do the needful and the time to do it is now.”
