Peter Okoye, also known as Mr P, has issued a public open letter to his twin brother Paul Okoye, known as Rudeboy, following their recent split for the second time.
This follows Rudeboy’s recent interview where he confirmed the split and made claims about the group’s success being largely due to his efforts.
In his letter, published on his verified Facebook page, Mr P accused his brother of undermining his contributions to their joint music career and disrespecting his talent, family, and wife.
Full Letter:
“My dear brother Paul,
I want to clarify once again that I am not in competition with you or anyone else. However, it has been disheartening to see you repeatedly discredit my role in the group that we created together. In recent interviews, you claimed that you wrote and performed 99% of our songs and dismissed contributions like ‘EjeaJo,’ which I wrote, as failures based on YouTube views.
You have neglected to acknowledge other significant tracks such as ‘Get-Squared,’ ‘Bizzy Body,’ ‘Personally,’ ‘Roll It,’ ‘Temptation,’ ‘Alingo,’ ‘More than a Friend,’ ‘Shekini,’ ‘Say Your Love,’ ‘Gimme Dat,’ ‘Senorita,’ ‘IGBEdu,’ and many others. Were these also failures?
Every time I speak about P-SQUARE, I use ‘we’ and ‘us’ because I view us as a team. Yet, you consistently use ‘I’ and ‘me,’ as if I never existed alongside you.
Neither of us may be the most talented artist globally, but we were blessed with our talent and given another chance to shine after our previous split. Instead of valuing this opportunity, you have tarnished the reputation of one of Africa’s most awarded music groups.
Our fans loved P-SQUARE not because of individual performances, but because of the unique magic that came from our combined efforts. The special chemistry between us was what made P-SQUARE exceptional.
Although I have always praised your songwriting abilities and those who have worked with us, you seem to find pleasure in belittling me and failing to recognize our joint achievements.
Instead of working together to regain our top position in the industry, you have allied with Jude to assert dominance within P-SQUARE, often marginalizing and humiliating me.
You claim to be the sole songwriter, producer, singer, and even director for P-SQUARE. It seems you want to be credited with everything, so much so that I would concede 100% to you instead of the 99% you claim.
I regret not addressing your false claims from April 2015 that you wrote and performed all of P-SQUARE’s songs. I stayed silent for the sake of peace, but now it seems my silence has been costly.
So, let me ask you: Is Rudeboy or Mr P more successful than P-SQUARE today? Are we individually achieving what we did as P-SQUARE? Are we selling out arenas or topping charts like we used to?
I wonder what you gain from constantly disrespecting and diminishing me. You have disrespected my wife, family, and my talents while siding with those who tried to oppress me.
It feels like you’re attempting to turn fans against me by portraying me as jealous. However, they will not hate me; instead, they will be disappointed in both of us for failing to meet their expectations.
I genuinely wish you the best, bro. For those who believe these false narratives and come to my page with negative comments, understand that I am focused on my music and wish to continue peacefully.
I will address the EFCC matter by the end of today. Stay tuned!
Peace.”
