PHOTOS: Shettima arrives in Italy ahead of UN food systems summit

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Rome, Italy, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the United Nations Food Systems Summit. The event is scheduled to take place from Monday, July 24, to Wednesday, July 26.

Upon his arrival at Leonardo Da Vinci airport at 7:45 pm Italian time on Sunday evening, Vice-President Shettima was warmly received by Nigerian diplomats, including the Nigerian Ambassador to Italy, Mfawa Omini Abam, the Head of Consular Department at the Nigerian Embassy in Italy, Ugochukwu Onuzulike, and the President of the Nigerian Community in Rome, Chima Ibezim.

During the Summit’s opening event on Monday, Vice-President Shettima is expected to chair high-level sessions focusing on “Innovative Financing for Food System Transformation: the Case of Nigeria” and a side event on “Scaling up Multi Stakeholders Collaboration and Investment in the Implementation of Food Systems Transformation Pathways in Nigeria.”

Alongside participating in the main events, Vice-President Shettima is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with other leaders on the sidelines of the Summit.

The Vice President is accompanied by senior government officials, including the Permanent Secretaries of Ministries of Agriculture and Environment, as they aim to contribute Nigeria’s perspectives to discussions on food system transformation at the global summit.
