Plateau killings: ‘We’ll not hesitate to evacuate Benue students from UNJIJOS, others’ – Gov Ortom assures

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has said said his administration is closely monitoring the ongoing situation in Plateau State and is in touch with relevant authorities to ensure that Benue indigenes schooling at the University of Jos and other tertiary institutions in the state are safe.

His comments came following the calls in some quarters for the evacuation of Benue students in Plateau following the ongoing killings in the area.

The governor, who was addressing newsmen at the Benue Peoples House on Wednesday, said the government is in touch with their indigenes over there and would not hesitate to evacuate them.

IDOMA VOICE reports that despite the dusk to dawn curfew imposed in Bassa LGA of Plateau State, gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen late Tuesday night launched an attack on Chando-Zirechi (Tafi-Gana) of Miango District of the LGA, killing five people in the incident.

The Secretary General of the Irigwe Development Association, Comrade Danjuma Dickson Auta, who confirmed the latest attack, said this is apart from another son of Irigwe killed at Dong village of Jos North LGA, in the evening of 16th August 2021, despite the 24 hour curfew imposed on the council.”
