Three people were killed and two others injured after unidentified gunmen attacked a mining site in Nyango, Gyel District, Jos South Local Government Area, on Tuesday.

The attack reportedly occurred at about 11:50 a.m. when the assailants stormed the mining site and opened fire on workers.

Following the incident, the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM) expressed concern over the recurring insecurity in Gyel and neighbouring communities.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, the association said the latest attack was part of a series of violent incidents recorded in the area.

According to the group, residents of Gyel and nearby communities in Bassa Local Government Area have repeatedly raised concerns over persistent attacks by armed groups allegedly operating around the Gyero and Rafin Buna axis.

The association said the recurring violence has claimed lives, displaced residents and disrupted economic activities in the affected communities.

BYM called on security agencies and relevant government authorities to dismantle criminal hideouts, intensify security operations and take decisive steps to end the violence and restore lasting peace in the area.
