The Katsina State Police Command has paraded Adewumi Gabriel, Head of ATM Operations at a Access Bank’s Daura branch, for conspiring with a colleague to steal N18 million from a customer’s account.
Adewumi admitted to collaborating with David Mesioye, who is currently at large, using their knowledge of the bank’s operations to execute the theft, which was uncovered during an audit.
Katsina Police Command spokesperson, Mr. Abubakar Aliyu, confirmed that among the exhibits recovered from Adewumi were N10.18 million from his various bank accounts and N366,900 in cash, along with other items.
In a separate case, Bishir Abdullahi, a 37-year-old from Sokoto State, was arrested at an old generation bank’s ATM in Katsina while in possession of 14 stolen ATM cards.
Police Officer Sadiq explained that Abdullahi, a known fraudster, specialized in swapping ATM cards of unsuspecting individuals at ATM locations. The suspect was apprehended at the Tudun Katsira ATM branch in Katsina after being spotted engaging in suspicious behavior.
A search revealed 14 stolen ATM cards from different banks, and further investigation revealed that Abdullahi had withdrawn a total of N2.705 million from the victims’ accounts. The suspect will face charges in court upon the completion of the investigation.
