The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five individuals, including a couple, for allegedly being involved in the sale of a two-month-old baby.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Command, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued yesterday in Lagos.
Hundeyin explained that detectives from the Oko-Oba Police Division apprehended the suspects after the mother of the baby boy reported the incident. According to the report, one of the suspects took the child to an unknown location on July 11.
“Detectives immediately took action, leading to the arrest of a woman named Gloria. During interrogation, Gloria admitted to selling the baby for ₦500,000 to a man known as Pastor Peter,” Hundeyin said.
Pastor Peter was later arrested in Ikene Town, Ogun State. He confessed to reselling the child for ₦1.4 million to a woman named Loretta. Loretta was subsequently arrested in Festac Town, Lagos, where she admitted to selling the baby for ₦2.3 million.
Further investigation led to the arrest of the final buyers, a couple identified as Mr. and Mrs. James, during a naming ceremony for the child.
All suspects will be arraigned in court following the conclusion of the investigation.
