A man was arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command after he climbed a 33KV high tension electricity pole to call for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation.

The incident took place in the Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area of Adamawa State between the morning of Friday, September 27, and the evening of Saturday, September 28.

The man remained atop the pole, insisting he would only come down if Tinubu resigned.

According to the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguruje, the man was rescued on Saturday night and taken into custody in Yola, the state capital.

“The Command will parade him today (Monday) for attempting suicide,” Nguruje stated, noting that such an act is a criminal offense under Nigerian law. “We will be charging him in court.”

Nguruje emphasized the police’s responsibility to protect lives and property, asserting that any individual who attempts suicide must face legal consequences.

Reports indicate that the man climbed the pole on Friday morning, coinciding with the market day in Mayo-Belwa and climbed the 33KV high tension pole along the Yola-Jalingo highway, insisting on Tinubu’s resignation.

Local residents were eventually enlisted to persuade him to come down, and he was successfully coaxed to descend on Saturday night.
