The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has apprehended a man named David Effiong for allegedly creating a public disturbance while dressed in full masquerade attire, in defiance of the state government’s prohibition.

Effiong was reportedly taken into custody on Tuesday after community members alerted authorities that a masquerader was causing chaos and damaging property in the area.

Confirming the arrest, Police Commissioner CP Baba Azare stated that Effiong would face court charges following the completion of investigations.

The arrest occurs amid stricter enforcement of Governor Umo Eno’s statewide ban on masquerade appearances, a measure aimed at curbing violence, intimidation, and property destruction associated with masqueraders.
