Police arrest notorious kidnapper, Saidu Abdulkadir terrorrising Abuja

The Anti-kidnapping unit of the FCT Police Command conducted a raid on two kidnappers’ camps located near the Nasarawa-Abuja border via Kuje area council. During the operation, the operatives apprehended one suspect identified as Saidu Abdulkadir, also known as Dahiru Adamu. This arrest is part of the ongoing efforts to combat crime in the Territory.

Saidu Abdulkadir, who serves as the gang leader, was captured on February 15, around 12 AM. He is one of the wanted suspects of a kidnapping syndicate previously paraded by the Police Command on February 14, 2024.

This action follows the announcement by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, who on Wednesday, declared a N20 million bounty on two criminals terrorizing residents of the territory, whether dead or alive. Wike made this declaration while addressing the Police Command in FCT during the parade of 15 arrested suspected kidnappers and one chance robber.

The bounty was in response to the Police Commissioner’s statement indicating that two other criminals were still at large, with the police actively pursuing them.

According to a statement released on Friday, February 16, by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, upon sighting the police operatives, the bandits engaged them in an intense gun battle. Eventually, the police overpowered the criminals, resulting in the rescue of Habu Yakubu and Isufu Abubakar, who were earlier abducted from Kwaita village via Pegi district of Kuje area council. Fortunately, both victims were rescued unharmed, and the suspect was arrested.

Adeh further revealed that preliminary investigations implicated the suspect in the kidnapping and killing of Mr. Sunday Yahaya Zakwai, the district head of Ketti village.

While efforts continue to apprehend the other wanted suspects who are still at large, the Commissioner of Police FCT, CP Benneth C. Igweh psc, mni, reassures criminals in FCT that there is no safe haven for them. He urges residents to report any suspicious activities through designated emergency lines provided.
