Police arrest Speed Darlington during performance in Owerri
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested Nigerian musician Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
Human rights lawyer and the singer’s counsel, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the arrest in a post on his official X account on Wednesday.
Adeyanju revealed that Speed Darlington was apprehended while performing at a show in Owerri, just days after returning to Nigeria.
“Our client, Speed Darlington, a.k.a AKPI, has been arrested by the Nigeria Police in Owerri at his show upon return to Nigeria,” Adeyanju wrote.
The reason for the arrest remains unclear as of the time of filing this report.
However, PUNCH Online recalls that Speed Darlington had previously been detained by the police over allegations of cyberstalking fellow musician Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy.
In that incident, he was arrested in Lagos and later transferred to Abuja, where he was detained by the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team in Guzape. Speed Darlington was released on bail a few days after his detention.
