The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a member of a robbery gang that invaded a students’ hostel in the Ipara Remo, in the Remo-North Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement on Saturday, gave the name of the suspect as Sodiq Yahaya, adding that he was nabbed after being wounded during an exchange of gunshots between the gang and policemen.
Oyeyemi said five other members of the robbery gang escaped with gunshot injuries through the bush.
“Upon the distress call, the DPO, Isara Division, CSP Shobiyi Oluwatoshin, quickly mobilised his men in conjunction with local vigilantes and moved to the scene. On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums opened fire on them and the policemen retaliated. At the end of the encounter, the robbers who had sustained varying degrees of gunshot injuries took to their heels and escaped through the bush,” he said.
