Police begin nationwide recruitment of 50,000 constables
The Police Service Commission (PSC), working jointly with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has formally kicked off the recruitment of 50,000 constables across the country.
The exercise follows President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to strengthen community policing structures and improve national security.
In a statement issued by Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, the PSC said the recruitment portal will open on Monday, 15 December 2025, and will close on Sunday, 25 January 2026.
The Commission explained that the latest intake is part of an ongoing plan to increase police manpower and boost the Force’s ability to tackle rising security threats.
Eligibility and Qualifications
For the General Duty category, candidates must present at least five credits including English and Mathematics in GCE O’Level, SSCE/NECO or equivalent certificates, obtained in no more than two sittings.
Those applying for the Specialist cadre must have a minimum of four credits, including English and Mathematics, also in a maximum of two sittings.
They are additionally expected to possess at least three years of relevant experience and valid Trade Test certifications.
Applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth.
The age range is 18 to 25 years for the General Duty cadre, while Specialist applicants may be between 18 and 28 years.
All candidates must meet medical, physical and psychological fitness standards. Height requirements of 1.67m for male and 1.64m for female candidates apply strictly to the General Duty category.
Process to Be Free, Fair and Based on Merit
The PSC assured the public that the recruitment will be open, transparent and merit-driven. It cautioned prospective applicants to avoid scammers, stressing that the entire process is free of charge and does not require payment at any stage.
Comprehensive guidelines and the application link will be available on the official portal, which goes live on 15 December 2025, as well as on the PSC and NPF verified online platforms.
The Commission urged eligible Nigerians who are eager to serve their country to seize the opportunity.
