The Kwara State Police Command has dismissed claims of an armed robbery in Eleyin village, Irepodun Local Government Area, on Sunday.
In a statement, Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi clarified that the report was a false alarm raised by Ibrahim Sai, a resident of Eleyin village, who contacted the DPO Oke-Onigbin at around 6 p.m.
A police team from ACPOL Omu-Aran and Oke-Onigbin was promptly dispatched to the scene. Upon investigation, it was found that the incident was the result of a dispute between a vehicle owner and some youths demanding ‘Owo-Ile’ land money after the vehicle broke down.
The misunderstanding was wrongly identified as an armed robbery by other road users and onlookers. Upon seeing the police, the youths fled. No robbery took place, and the area remains calm, the statement confirmed.
The police condemned the spread of the false report, emphasizing that it undermines their efforts to combat crime. They urged the public to avoid sharing unverified information and to contact their emergency hotlines: 0812 527 5046 and 0703 206 9501 for genuine concerns.
The command reassured the public of its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents.
