The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) stated on Tuesday that the alarm raised by 14 residents of the territory about their missing organs was untrue.
The FCT Police Commissioner, Mr. Haruna Garba, confirmed that medical examinations conducted on the individuals who raised the alarm revealed it to be false. He further explained that the 14 persons involved were currently facing prosecution for providing false information and inciting public disturbances.
Garba mentioned that this false alarm had caused the police to respond to cases of mob action against more than 10 accused individuals in the FCT in recent weeks. He stated that no lives were lost in the reported incidents.
The FCT Police Command had dealt with over 10 cases of alleged disappearance of male organs in the territory, resulting in escalating incidents of mob action by irate youths. Garba urged residents to caution their wards and children against raising false alarms and emphasized the dangers of resorting to jungle justice or mob action.
He clarified that hospitals do not require police reports before attending to patients in emergency situations. Additionally, Garba advised residents to be cautious about boarding unpainted taxis to avoid falling victim to criminals known as “One Chance.” He recommended using designated motor parks and painted taxis for safety.
