Police in Benue State have killed three suspected armed robbers said to be terrorising Gboko town area of the state.
According to a statement signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Daniel Ezealo, and made available to the Nigerian Tribune in Makurdi, at the weekend, said that five suspected robbers had, last Thursday, moved from one house to another to dispossess their victims of their belongings.
The police spokesman further said that while the suspected robbers were having a successful outing, a distress call was made to the area command in the ancient town.
He said,, in the statement that the police on patrol team, swiftly swung into action and engaged the robbers, numbering five, in gun duel, stressing that in the process, three out of the five suspected robbers were brought down while the two others escaped into the bush.
Ezealo said that a locally made pistol, an English double barrel gun, 12 live catridges, 12 assorted mobile phones and the sum of N28,000 and expended cartridge were recovered from the suspects.
He stated that the state Police Commissioner, Mr Chris Katso, had ordered full scale investigation into the case and called on the people of the state to cooperate with the police as it intensified efforts at ridding the state of crime.
