The Jigawa State Police Command has reported the arrest of 1,254 individuals connected to various crimes throughout 2024.
These offenses encompass armed robbery, cattle rustling, drug trafficking, theft, and rape.
During a press briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Dutse, Police Commissioner AT Abdullahi highlighted the year’s achievements, crediting enhanced strategies and community collaboration for these successes.
Notably, on November 20, 2024, eight armed robbery suspects were apprehended in Gwaram town; they have since confessed and been charged in court.
In a separate incident, Sani Abdullahi was arrested on November 21, 2024, for allegedly assaulting 12 minors in Basirka town; he confessed to the crime and is currently on trial.
Additionally, on December 10, 2024, two individuals, Isah Isyaku and Sulaiman Yusuf, were detained for vandalizing streetlight armored cables in Gantsa town; both admitted their involvement and are facing prosecution.
The breakdown of arrests includes 88 armed robbery suspects, 19 kidnapping suspects, 120 suspected rapists, 158 individuals accused of culpable homicide, and 869 others involved in various offenses.
Recovered items comprise 17 firearms (including AK-47 rifles and locally fabricated guns), 82 motorcycles and vehicles, 276 rustled animals, 408 tablets of Tramadol, 622 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 1,274 pieces of rubber solution, 347 Exol tablets, and 254 Diazepam tablets.
Other seized items include mobile phones, laptops, solar panels, and cement bags.
A significant arrest involved alleged drug baron Sani Bashir on November 29, 2024, leading to the recovery of 23 blocks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and 100 packets of rubber solution.
Commissioner Abdullahi attributed these accomplishments to support from the Inspector-General of Police, the Jigawa State Government, and active citizen participation.
He also acknowledged the collaboration of traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations, and the media.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining safety and security in Jigawa State and urged the public to continue providing timely and accurate information to aid in combating crime.
