Police nab suspect over murder of POS operator in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a suspect linked to the killing of Abbas Yuguda, a 35-year-old POS operator, in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area.
The attack occurred on March 22, 2025, as Yuguda was heading home after closing his business for the day. According to police reports, assailants armed with weapons ambushed him, inflicted severe head injuries, and left him in a pool of blood.
Police spokesperson SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.
“Upon receiving a distress call, operatives from the Mayo-Belwa Divisional Headquarters arrived at the scene and rushed the victim to Cottage Hospital, Mayo-Belwa. Unfortunately, he was confirmed dead while receiving treatment,” he said.
Following the attack, angry youths in the area tracked down one suspect, identified as Umar SNU, and subjected him to mob action before the police intervened and rescued him.
“The suspect was taken to the hospital for medical attention and is now assisting with the investigation,” Nguroje added.
Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris condemned the killing and assured the public of a thorough investigation to bring all culprits to justice. He also warned against jungle justice, urging residents to report crimes to the police instead of taking the law into their own hands.
The Adamawa State Police Command has called on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to prevent further violence.
