A gang of four suspected cultists and armed robbers have been arrested by operatives of the Delta State Police Command with three cut-to-size single barrels guns with eighteen cartridges, and a Lexus car with Reg. No. YAB 750 BP recovered from them.
The acting Police Public Relations Officer for the State Command, DSP Bright Edafe told the Source that the arrest followed a distress call from a victim.
According to the PPRO, the police, on 18/8/2021 at about 08:25hrs, received a distress call that hoodlums were operating at MTN Road by Pipeline, Sapele in Sapele Local Government Area of the State.
Based on the information, the DPO Sapele Division led a crack team in conjunction with the vigilante to the scene.
During the operation, four suspects namely James Wisdom a.k.a Young Diamond aged 25; Peter Ayodele aged 22; Ikolo Micheal aged 18yrs and Francis Success aged 26yrs were arrested in action.
The police said that investigation is ongoing in the matter.
In a similar development, on the 18/8/2021 at about 1000hrs, the Divisional Police Officer, Oghara, acting on intelligence that three armed men burgled a house at Old Benin Road, Oghara at about 0200hrs and made away with phones valued at N400,000, the DPO swung into action and detailed operatives to investigate and bring the armed robbers to book.
Consequently, the detectives through intelligence-led operation arrested some suspects namely Choice Macaulay, 26; Endurance Ejokirehie, 27; and Junior Macaulay aged 21, at a local Indian hemp joint.
Exhibits recovered from them include three phones, a dummy gun, and an iron rod used for the robbery. The suspects confessed to the crime and the victims have since identified the stolen phones as theirs.
On further investigation, it was discovered that one of the suspects, Choice Macaulay who is the leader of the gang was arrested before and charged to court, but was later released.
The suspect led the detectives to their hideouts where one locally-made gun and two live cartridges were dug out from the ground where they were buried.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police for the State Command, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, has warned criminally minded people that “Delta State will not be a safe place for them” noting that under his watch, the police in the command will continue to go after them until Delta state is free of criminally minded people who have nothing to offer than to cause pain and havoc on the good people of the state.
In this regard, the CP has mandated the Area Commanders, DPOs, and Tactical commanders not to relent in the fight against crime and criminality.
