Police nab suspected kidnappers, cultists with guns in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has successfully recovered arms and ammunition from suspected kidnappers and cultists in Oghara.

Among the recovered items are an AK-47 rifle, magazines, an English pump-action gun, and a locally-made cut-to-size gun.

The suspected kidnappers were apprehended last week during the graduation ceremony at Delta State Polytechnic, Oghara.

Acting on credible intelligence that some suspected kidnappers were planning to abduct guests attending the ceremony, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Oghara Division, CSP Olasunkanmi Musiliu, swiftly mobilized his team. They raided the suspects’ hideout in a bush along Otefe/Ovade Legit Road. Though the suspects fled, sustaining various degrees of gunshot wounds during an exchange of fire, the police recovered their ammunition.

In a related operation, the police anti-crime patrol team from Oghara Division, while conducting a stop-and-search along Otefe Ijomi Community Road, recovered another locally-made cut-to-size gun with six live cartridges.

During the stop-and-search, the police intercepted a motorcycle carrying two individuals: Ovoke Benedict, 22, a computer science student, and Fredrick Urhoborume, 23, a business administration student, both from Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe, Oghara. Upon searching them, the police found the firearm. Preliminary investigations suggest they are members of the Arrow Barger Confraternity.

SP Edafe Bright, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Delta Command, confirmed the recoveries and arrests, adding that investigations are ongoing.
