The Benue State Police Command has apprehended Samuel Nnamani, the prime suspect in the alleged murder of Chief Osita Okoye, the late President General of the Amafor Community in Ugbawka, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Reports indicate that Nnamani, who also served as the community’s deputy president general, was arrested over the weekend in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, where he had been hiding.
Nnamani is accused of luring Okoye to a meeting, during which the community leader was allegedly killed. After the incident, Nnamani reportedly fled to Benue State, but his whereabouts were uncovered, leading to his arrest by members of the Igbo community in the area. The group promptly handed him over to the Benue State Police Command, which later transferred him to detectives from the Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
Reacting to the development, the Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement Network (CRRAN), a human rights organization, commended the police for their efforts. In a statement issued by its President, Olu Omotayo, the group described the arrest as a “positive development” and emphasized the importance of justice for the Okoye family.
The Benue Police Command Spokesperson, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect had been handed over to the Enugu Police Command for further investigation.
