Police nab three suspects for stealing motorcycles in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with motorcycle thefts at various locations across the state. The suspects, identified as Abibu Yusuf (23), Sanni Saidu (30), and Adejumo Micheal, were apprehended in separate incidents.

According to reports, there has been a rise in motorcycle robberies in the state, prompting intensified efforts by the police.

Confirming the arrests on Tuesday, the state’s police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, told DAILY POST that Yusuf and Saidu were arrested for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued at ₦1 million, owned by Daniel Micheal. They were also linked to the theft of another motorcycle belonging to Majek Obasanjo in the Fidiwo area of Owode Egba, Ogun State. The police recovered two cutlasses from the suspects at the crime scene.

Odutola recounted the first incident, stating, “On October 2, near Fidiwo in Owode Egba, a motorcycle owner, Daniel Michael, reported that he was robbed of his TVS motorcycle, registration number L358, worth one million naira. He said two attackers armed with a rod assaulted him and took the bike.”

In a similar incident at the same location, Majek Obasanjo reported that he was robbed of his motorcycle and mobile phone. Though he tried to resist, the robbers escaped with his belongings. Eyewitnesses identified the suspects as Abibu Yusuf and Sanni Saidu, leading to their arrests.

The third suspect, Adejumo Micheal, was arrested on Sunday after stealing a motorcycle parked on the premises of a church in Oke-Itoku, Abeokuta. The motorcycle belonged to one Folorunsho Jamiu.

Odutola explained, “At about 1:00 p.m., one Folorunsho Jamiu reported that his red Bajaj motorcycle, with registration number LSD 443 QH, was stolen from the church premises. Officers traced the stolen motorcycle to Adejumo Micheal, who was caught attempting to flee with it.”

The police spokesperson assured the public that investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be prosecuted. She reiterated the command’s commitment to intensifying efforts to rid the state of criminal activities.
