The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered a Beretta pistol, two live rounds of ammunition, and a Toyota Corolla car during a routine security checkpoint operation on the Umudioka-Awkuzu road by Igbariam.

In a statement on Monday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives from the Special Anti-Cult Squad in Enugwu-Ukwu carried out the arrest on January 25, 2025.

According to Ikenga, the suspects were among four occupants in a white Toyota Corolla with registration number YAB 26 CB. Two of the occupants fled the scene when ordered to stop for a search, but the remaining two, identified as Raphael Peverga and Saakura Teryima, both 22 years old and from Benue State, were apprehended.

“The team recovered one Beretta pistol, two live ammunition, and the vehicle used by the suspects. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the two fleeing suspects,” Ikenga stated.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, assured the public that the Command remains committed to implementing strategies to tackle criminal activities and ensure safety across the state.
