There was chaos at the Ekeki Police Division in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, on Thursday as a violent clash broke out between police officers and operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The altercation reportedly began when NDLEA operatives attempted to arrest a suspected drug dealer after making an entry at the police station. Policemen from the Ekeki Division allegedly obstructed the operation, leading to gunfire that caused panic among residents.

An eyewitness, present at the scene, claimed that two NDLEA vehicles were shot by the police to stop the suspect’s arrest. There are suspicions that the police might be providing protection for the drug suspect operating near the station.

NDLEA spokesperson, Howells Oba, confirmed the incident, stating, “Our men were on an operation and made a proper entry at the police station. Two of our vehicles were shot, and we’re working to resolve the issue.”

Police spokesperson Musa Mohammed said he was heading to the scene to gather details on the incident.
