The Zone 2 Police Command headquarters in Onikan has confirmed the detention of an Investigating Police Officer (IPO) attached to the Isheri-Oshun Division for allegedly tampering with a case file and a medical report.
The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police for the Zone, Mr. Adegoke Fayoade, disclosed this to reporters on Tuesday in Lagos.
Fayoade stated that the IPO is suspected of manipulating the case file and medical report related to an alleged incident of anal sexual assault involving a hotelier and several teenage students in the Isheri-Oshun area of the state.
Earlier reports by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) indicated that the hotelier was detained by Zone 2 operatives after allegations surfaced that he had assaulted the teenagers at his hotel. The hotelier allegedly threatened the victims, warning them not to disclose the assault or they would die.
The case came to light when one of the victims, a 16-year-old boy, confessed the incident to his parents. Shortly afterward, the boy reportedly suffered a mental breakdown, which prompted a report to the Zone 2 Command headquarters.
Sources within the police revealed that after the suspect’s detention, the hotelier’s lawyer claimed that the case had been reported earlier to the Zone for a thorough investigation. However, upon reviewing the case file, it was found to have been tampered with.
“The case file, retrieved from one of the units in Zone 2, showed evidence of manipulation,” a police source explained. “The confession made by another victim at the Isheri-Oshun Division, along with medical reports from Mirable Center at Ikeja General Hospital, had been altered.”
Following this discovery, AIG Fayoade ordered further investigations, leading detectives from the Zonal Oracle unit, led by CSP Uba, to raid the Isheri-Oshun Police Station. During the operation, the IPO who had handled the case file admitted to removing certain statements.
The IPO later produced the concealed statements, which revealed detailed testimonies from a second victim, who described the assault with supporting medical evidence.
It has also emerged that other officers from the Ejigbo Division may be summoned for questioning over their alleged involvement, particularly in relation to the police’s actions when arresting the hotelier.
