Police react to viral reports on return of disbanded SARS

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed reports suggesting the return of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), emphasizing that the unit remains dissolved.

In a statement titled DISCLAIMER: SARS REMAINS DISSOLVED – FPRO”, issued on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, described the claims as false and misleading.

Adejobi reaffirmed that SARS, which was officially disbanded on October 11, 2020, has not been reinstated under any form. He urged Nigerians to verify information from credible sources before believing or spreading such rumors.

“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to debunk circulating misinformation about the return of SARS with a reformed set of rules. SARS remains dissolved, and any reports suggesting otherwise should be treated with caution,” the statement read.

The NPF also advised citizens to rely on its official social media handles for accurate updates: @PoliceNG on X (Twitter), @ngpolice on Facebook, and @nigeriapoliceforce on Instagram.
