Police repel armed herders’ attack in Agatu, Benue
The Police in Benue State on Monday repelled an attack on Egwuma and Ipele communities in Agatu Local Government Area.
Sources said the incident occurred around 5:56 p.m. when unknown gunmen, believed to be armed herders, invaded the communities.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Agatu quickly mobilised tactical teams, who engaged the attackers in a gunfight. The sources noted that the heavy police firepower forced the assailants to flee into the swampy forest.
A search operation is ongoing in the surrounding bushes to track the suspects, while additional tactical teams and Police Mobile Force (PMF) units have been deployed for reinforcement.
