Police rescue kidnap victims in Jigawa, apprehend 298

The Jigawa State Police Command has reported the arrest of 298 suspects in a recent statement issued by its spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu, on Wednesday in Dutse. The arrests came as a result of a special operation carried out in the region, during which the police also seized 64 rustled animals and firearms, in addition to rescuing six kidnap victims.

The detainees face a range of charges, including robbery, kidnapping, murder, rape, vandalism, animal rustling, and fraud, among other offenses. The suspects are categorized as follows: 25 for robbery, 12 for kidnapping, 36 for murder, 25 for rape, 37 for theft, 15 for vandalism, 17 for animal rustling, and five for fraud. Additionally, 126 individuals were apprehended for alleged involvement with criminal gangs.

Law enforcement efforts also led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one Beretta pistol, three locally-made firearms, 48 live ammunition rounds, 20 motor vehicles and motorcycles, and the 64 rustled animals. Furthermore, authorities discovered 560 parcels of Cannabis Sativa and various narcotic substances during the operation.

DSP Lawan Shiisu highlighted that the crime prevention strategies employed by the Jigawa Police Command have resulted in a generally peaceful environment, allowing residents to engage in their lawful activities without fear of harm. He credited the dedication and proactivity of the police personnel for this achievement and expressed gratitude to various supporting agencies and the Jigawa State government.

Shiisu reiterated the commitment of the command to safeguard lives and property and called upon the state’s residents to collaborate with the police in the ongoing fight against crime.
