Police rescue suspected motorcycle thief from angry Mob in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police have intervened to save a suspected motorcycle thief from a violent mob in Kazaure Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at Shaiskawa quarters, according to a local resident who spoke to DAILY POST. The community had set a trap for the thief due to a surge in thefts in the area. The suspect was apprehended while attempting to steal a motorcycle.

The resident reported, “The angry youths severely beat the suspect, but police arrived in time to rescue him.”

DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed the event in a statement. “On 30/08/2024 at approximately 8:00 PM, we received information that Ibrahim Sadik, a suspected motorcycle thief, was captured at Sha’iskawa Quarters in Kazaure LGA. During the arrest, the suspect was severely beaten by an irate mob.”

Adam further explained, “A police team quickly responded to the scene, providing medical aid to the suspect who had been injured. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.”

Upon interrogation, Sadik admitted to his crime, stating he had come to Kazaure on market day with the intention of stealing a motorcycle.

The police spokesperson added that Sadik has been charged and will face prosecution in court.
