The Police in Sokoto State, North West Nigeria said it had rescued a female victim of human trafficking and arrested two facilitators at Illela border town.
Mr Mohammed Gumel, the Commissioner of Police in the state made the disclosure while addressing newsmen in Sokoto on Monday.
He said the action was part of the mandate of X-SQUAD quick reaction force recently launched by the command.
“It is in pursuance of this mandate, the command on September 2 responded to a distress call by one of the migrants who was trapped at Illela border town to Niger Republic.
“In her statement during the call, she said that while her handler was making effort to smuggle her across the border, she sighted a police patrol team that directed her to hide, which she complied,” he said.
He said the quick reaction force also arrested the two facilitators, one at Illela and the second one at Sokoto metropolis.
The police commissioner further urged parents and guardians to always monitor the activities of their children and wards under their care.
Gumel also called on the general public to continue to support security agencies in their efforts toward addressing all forms of crimes and criminality across the state. (NAN)
