Anambra State Police Command successfully prevented an attempted robbery and kidnap operation by armed assailants in Awka North Local Government Area. The Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acting on a tip from a vigilant citizen, discovered the gang’s activities during a routine patrol along the Ebenebe-Achalla Road in Awka North LGA.
“The alert citizen spotted two gunmen on a motorcycle and promptly informed the operatives on anti-kidnapping patrol,” stated the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga. Acting swiftly, the operatives engaged the criminals who attempted to rob motorists. A brief shootout ensued, but the prepared operatives gained the upper hand, causing the assailants to abandon their weapons and flee into the nearby bush.
Ikenga disclosed that the search in the bushes led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles loaded with 7.62mm ammunition and expended rounds. He also quoted Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, commending the operatives for their courage and urging them to intensify proactive operations in the area to eradicate criminal elements affecting the citizens of that region.
