The Otukpo Local Government Council Chairman, Chief George Alli, has blamed the spate of cultism in his domain on politicians, elites and Landlords.
Alli who was addressing concerned mothers who led a peaceful procession round Otukpo on Monday to protest the incessant killings by suspected cultists in Otukpo.
Otukpo which is the trado-political capital of the Idoma nation had of recent acquired the notoriety for cultism and other antisocial vices.
Several people have either been killed or maimed by the suspected cultists in Otukpo and its environs.
Pushed by the activities of these undesirable elements, the council chairmen swung into action which led to the arrest and detention of about 36 of the suspected cultists with several dangerous weaponries including AK-47.
Alli who was literally in tears while addressing the mothers thanked them for their efforts praying that their prayers will not be in vain.
The chairman said he would not rest until total peace is achieved stressing that the council would do all within its power to reform and rehabilitate some of the arrested cultists by inculcating into them some vocational trainings.
