Tragedy struck in Agbor as footballer Onyebuchi Chidubem collapsed and tragically passed away during a routine training session. The player from Winners FC reportedly collapsed suddenly, without any preceding contact, and despite immediate attempts by those present to administer CPR, their efforts were sadly in vain. Upon being rushed to the nearby General Hospital Agbor, he was pronounced dead.
Onyebuchi Chidubem had previously played for KG Sports Academy Agbor from 2019 to 2022 before joining Winners FC. On the fateful day, he was training with the Ogala All Stars team, a regular activity on Saturday mornings aimed at maintaining fitness.
His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the football community in Agbor, leaving many questioning the circumstances surrounding his tragic collapse.
In response to this heartbreaking loss, Chairman of the Agbor Football Coaches and Directors Union (AFCADU), Coach Onyeka Alika, has announced a 3-day mourning period in honor of the departed player. Additionally, all friendly matches are to be suspended during this period.
“He was a valued member of our union, and it is only fitting that we accord him the respect he deserves. As such, all friendly matches should be suspended to allow for proper mourning,” Coach Onyeka Alika stated in the AFCADU WhatsApp Forum.
