Portable begs Ogun govt to release arrested associates

Popular street-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, better known as Portable, has urged the Ogun State Government to release his associates detained for allegedly assaulting officials of the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA).

In an Instagram post on Saturday, Portable dismissed the allegations as “lies,” claiming his workers were unlawfully arrested and detained.

The dispute erupted when OGPDPA officials attempted to seal his Odogwu Bar and Restaurant over permit violations and inadequate air space. The singer alleged that over 20 individuals—including artists and customers—were arrested, and personal belongings were confiscated.

However, Ogun State Commissioner for Physical Planning, Olatunji Odunlami, refuted Portable’s claims, calling them “spurious and blatant falsehoods.” He insisted the arrests followed due process.

Following the confrontation, nine individuals were arraigned on a five-count charge, including armed violence, felony, obstruction, assault, and intent to kill. Bail was set at ₦5 million each, requiring sureties registered as licensed bond agents. The case was adjourned to March 17, 2025.

Speaking from an undisclosed location, Portable alleged he was being “set up” by certain individuals in Ogun State. He challenged authorities to present video evidence of the alleged assault.

In an emotional revelation, the Zazoo Zeh crooner said he was struggling with stress and frustration, warning that the ordeal was pushing him toward suicidal thoughts.

“I come from a humble background. I don’t fight anyone unless I’m set up. People make money from trouble, but I didn’t fight anyone,” he lamented in a mix of Yoruba and Pidgin English.
