Portable surrenders to police over assault charges

Controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has surrendered to the Ogun State Police Command following his declaration as wanted.

Confirming his arrival, the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that Portable arrived at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, at 1:23 PM on February 19, 2025.

Earlier, Portable had turned himself in at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, prompting the Lagos police to notify their Ogun State counterparts for custody transfer.

Odutola assured the public that due process would be followed in handling the case, urging people to avoid spreading unverified information.

Portable’s legal troubles stem from allegations of assaulting three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—during an enforcement exercise in Ota.

Following the incident, nine of his alleged accomplices were arrested and arraigned on charges including felony, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. The suspects pleaded not guilty.

After failing to honour police invitations, Portable was declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command. In response, he took to social media, describing himself as a “madman undergoing treatment” at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Aro, Abeokuta, and pleaded for leniency from Nigerians and the state government.
