Portugal’s manager, Roberto Martinez, has emphasized that the team has the ability to secure victories even in the absence of their star player, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Martinez made this assertion following Portugal’s 9-0 triumph over Luxembourg in a UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier at Estadio Algarve on Monday, where Ronaldo was not present.
Goals from Inacio, Ramos, Jota, Horta, Fernandes, and Felix, with each player scoring twice, ensured Portugal’s decisive victory over Luxembourg.
In his post-match statement, Martinez acknowledged Ronaldo’s significance to the team but also stressed that Portugal is fully capable of excelling in his absence.
“Gonçalo Ramos showed today what he can do, and Diogo Jota did the same.
“We need players who have the level to win games. The group is special. We don’t need to compare them. Cristiano is important, but our team is ready to win without him.”
