The Spanish Football Association (RFEF) has announced that the postponed La Liga clash between Valencia and Real Madrid will now take place on January 2, 2025, at 20:00 CET.
The match was rescheduled following the devastating floods that struck the Valencia region in September.
Initially called off due to the natural disaster, the game at Mestalla has been eagerly awaited as both teams look to reshape their campaigns.
Valencia, managed by Rubén Baraja, will first face Espanyol on December 18 to complete another postponed fixture before hosting Real Madrid.
These matches will provide clarity on their league position as they strive to climb out of the relegation zone.
For Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid, the encounter offers a crucial opportunity to close the gap on La Liga leaders Barcelona, who currently sit four points ahead with an extra game played.
The return of Vinícius Jr., sidelined by injury and a target of racist abuse in past meetings with Valencia fans, is expected to bolster Madrid’s chances. Reports suggest the Brazilian star could be fit in time to play a decisive role.
Real Madrid will approach the match with caution, given their recent struggles at Mestalla.
In May 2023, Valencia defeated the reigning champions 1-0, courtesy of a Diego López goal, and in March 2024, they held Madrid to a 2-2 draw, with Hugo Duro and Roman Yaremchuk scoring for the hosts and Vinícius netting twice for the visitors.
The rescheduled match adds intrigue to an already competitive season, with both sides having much to prove as they return to action.
