Power outage: Supreme Court, DIA, NIA, Airport, other areas go dark in Abuja (Full list)

Residents across several areas in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have been left in darkness following a power outage announced by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

In a statement issued on Monday, AEDC attributed the blackout to a technical fault on the feeder supplying electricity to the affected locations. The company assured customers that its technical team is working diligently to restore power as soon as possible.

The outage has impacted several areas, including Utako, Wuye, Jabi, Airport, NJI, NARSDA, NABDA, Lugbe Shoprite, Riverpark Estate, War College, Dunamis, NIGCOMSAT, and Nigeria-Korea Model School. Others affected include Lugbe Primary, Zuma Steel, Kapwa Village, NIA Junior/Senior, Tipper Garage, Tudu Wada, Peace Village, Video Club, CRD, 1R, T-Pumpy Estate, New Site, Back of Dunamis, Jedo, and Forte Royal Estate.

Residents in Aso Drive, NSA, NASS, NJC, FJC, Supreme Court, Wubassy Barracks, Army War College, Mambila Barracks, Yar’Adua Barracks, DIA, Niger Barracks, Lungi & Agu Irosi Barracks, and surrounding areas are also experiencing the blackout.

AEDC expressed regret over the situation, emphasizing its commitment to resolving the issue swiftly.

This power disruption comes weeks after the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carried out a planned blackout in parts of Abuja in February. At the time, TCN cited maintenance work on transformers at the Apo 132/33kV Transmission Substation as the reason for the power cut. The scheduled maintenance led to a seven-hour outage in key locations, including the National Hospital, Garki, and Asokoro.

According to TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, that outage was necessary due to Abuja DisCo’s inability to receive bulk power supply during the maintenance period.
