An 18-year-old expectant housewife named Khadija Adamu, who was apprehended by the police in Bauchi State for allegedly fatally beating her five-year-old stepdaughter for an incident of soiling herself, has expressed deep regret over her actions.

In an interview with The PUNCH during her presentation to the media at the Bauchi Police Headquarters, Khadija emphasized that her actions were not intentional but driven by a desire to correct the child for her misbehavior.

Khadija, who is currently four months pregnant with her second child, vehemently denied any intention to kill the child. She clarified that she considered the child her own and was horrified at the tragic outcome of her actions.

Detailing the events, she explained that she used a USB cord to discipline the child after she defecated on herself. Tragically, the young girl succumbed to her injuries the following day, leaving Khadija devastated.

Expressing remorse and seeking leniency, Khadija emphasized that her actions were not premeditated and pleaded for understanding, especially considering her unborn child. She insisted that everyone involved had forgiven her for her actions.

Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, narrated the incident during the press conference, highlighting the severity of the injuries inflicted on the minor. He urged caution and care in disciplining children, particularly for those not biologically related, and emphasized the need to address envy and rivalry among wives.

The incident is a somber reminder of the responsibility and care required when disciplining and nurturing children, emphasizing the importance of fostering a safe and loving environment for them.
