Price of bag of Dangote, BUA, other cement this week

As of February 28, 2025, Nigeria’s cement prices have experienced significant fluctuations.

In a recent directive, the Federal Government has urged manufacturers to lower the cost of a 50kg bag of cement to ₦7,000.

During a meeting on February 26, 2025, Minister of Works David Umahi emphasized that a stabilized naira and reduced petrol prices support this reduction. He warned that if manufacturers do not meet the ₦7,000 target within a week, he would have to report them to President Bola Tinubu.

However, market surveys reveal that retail prices remain well above the government’s target. For example, Dangote Cement is currently selling between ₦9,500 and ₦10,000 per 50kg bag, depending on the location and retailer. BUA Cement is priced between ₦8,000 and ₦9,000 per bag, while Elephant Supaset Portland Limestone Cement and POP Cement are priced at ₦10,000 and ₦9,500 respectively.

The gap between the government’s recommended price and the actual market prices is attributed to factors such as high demand, supply shortages, and challenges related to foreign exchange.

David Iweta, national chairman of the Cement Producers’ Association of Nigeria (CEPAN), mentioned that improved coordination with the federal government might help reduce cement prices within the next 30 days.

It is important for consumers to note that these prices may vary based on location, retailer, and prevailing market conditions, so checking with local suppliers for the most current pricing is advised.
