Professor Chris Piwuna elected new ASUU President

Professor Chris Piwuna has been elected as the new President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), succeeding Professor Victor Osodeke.
Piwuna, a consultant psychiatrist at the University of Jos Teaching Hospital (JUTH) and the current Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Jos, Plateau State, emerged victorious over Professor Adamu Babayo of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, in the keenly contested election.
The election took place on Sunday during the 23rd National Delegates Congress of the Union held in Benin City, Edo State.
Piwuna takes over the leadership of ASUU at a pivotal moment, as the union grapples with fresh agitation over unresolved issues. These include the Federal Government’s sharing formula of the recently released Earned Academic Allowances, continued brain drain, and other longstanding challenges affecting Nigeria’s university system.
