STILL TRENDING: Buhari appoints Idoma-born Emmanuel Ameh as Executive Director in Bank of Agriculture
BIRTH
Mr. Owoicho Emmanuel Ameh (Popularly called Owy) was born to the family of Pa Ameh Ogbanje and Madam Oyima Onoja of Igwumale-Igwu village in Orokam on the 3rd day of June, 1964. He is the fifth child in the union and the tenth child in the extended larger family of Pa Ameh Ogbanje.
EDUCATION
Owy started his early education in 1971 at Holy Family Catholic School, Ukporo and proceeded to St. Joseph’s Primary School, Orokam Centre in 1974 since the then Ukporo Primary School had only up to class three. Having completed primary school in Orokam, he proceeded to Govt. Secondary School, Garagboghol, near Gboko in 1977 and passed out in 1982.
In 1983, Mr. Ameh moved to Federal School of Arts and Science, Sokoto for his HSC/GCE ‘A’ Level and thereafter graduated in 1985 with the highest points in the whole school. That level of pass earned him a much merited admission to the University of Lagos in the same 1985 to study Accounting. He was among the best three graduates in the Accounting department of the University in 1988.
Owy studied for his professional accountancy exams in Lagos and became an Associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) in 1992.
Mr. Ameh also studied for and earned the Masters Degree of M.Sc. Political Economy and Development Studies from the University of Abuja in 1998 as well as the degree of Master of Business Admin (MBA) in 2006 from the same university.
He is currently a fellow of ICAN, Fellow of Chartered Institute of Loan and Risk Management and Associate Member of Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.
WORKING LIFE
Upon graduation in 1988, Owy did the compulsory NYSC at Internal Audit dept. of Federal Capital Development Authority, Abuja between September 1988 and August 1989.
He then began his banking career at the then Chartered Bank Limited (now Stanbic IBTC) in Lagos in November 1989 where he rose rapidly through the ranks to become an Assistant Manager in 1995.
Mr. Ameh in search of greener pastures moved to Zenith Bank in January 1996 and managed various portfolios and zones until April 2012 when he retired as the Deputy General Manager/Zonal Head of Abuja and North Central Region to pursue private career in Accountancy and Consultancy.
Owy thereafter started his accounting practice, E. O. Ameh & Co. (Chartered Accountants) in August 2012 where he is currently the Managing Partner.
Mr. Ameh began his public service work in August this year, when he was appointed as the Special Adviser, Economic Matters to the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Abuja.
He still has interest in banking and is currently a Director of the highly successful Pillar Microfinance Bank, Abuja.
A widely travelled man, Mr. Ameh has attended several professional development programmes within and outside the country including Lagos Business School (Pan African University), JP Morgan Training School in the UK, INSEAD School of Business, France, amongst others.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
Owy believes so much in uplifting the standard of his Orokam Community that he has vigorously pursued emancipation programmes for the people.
In Zenith bank, he succeeded in employing over 100 Idoma people, mostly of Orokam origin at various levels and zones/branches of the bank such that Zenith was referred to as ‘Anya’ bank in Abuja while he was there.
On the home front, Mr. Ameh anchored and co-funded a multi-million naira electricity project that involved electrification of several villages in his native Igwu clan as well as some other ones in Ejema community in Orokam.
He also anchored the sinking of a water borehole in his village of Igwumale-Igwu in Orokam under the UNICEF funded Community WASH project.
It is also on record that over 60% of the current 16-man staff strength in the auditing firm are of Orokam origin.
SOCIAL AND POLITICAL LIFE
Mr. Ameh maintains excellent ties with his blood, in-laws and social relatives. He has an admirable sense of humility and contentment and has a listening heart. He is a very kind and benevolent man.
He participates actively in his community affairs, as a member of several community based associations in Abuja and at home. He is a strong member of Okam Forum and various socio-cultural groups in Abuja and was a member of the high level committee that resuscitated the then dying Orokam Development Association (National) in 2013.
Politically, he is a member as well as supporter/financier of his party in his ward and the local government. He believes in politics of emancipation of the people as well as politics without bitterness.
SPIRITUAL
Mr. Ameh believes excellently in the word of God and encourages people to live pure and holy lives. He grew up as a practicing Catholic but devotedly fellowship now at Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Abuja where he is a member of the church workforce and host of one of the church’s most spirit-filled and viable home cell.

FAMILY
Owy got married to his lovely wife, Princess Anne Enyantu (nee Enenche) in October 1997 and the union has produced four classy and lovely children – 3 daughters and a son, all at various levels of educational undertakings.
