Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday signed Nigerian-born Germany striker, Karim Adeyemi, on a five-year contract from Austrian champions, RB Salzburg.
The announcement from the Bundesliga runners-up came around an hour after the news that they had reached an agreement with Manchester City to sell striker, Erling Haaland, to the English champions.
Here are a few things to should know about the striker who will follow in the step of Robert Lewandowski and Haaland to lead the line for the German giants.
Karim-David Adeyemi was born on 18 January 2002 in Munich, Germany, to a Nigerian father and a Romanian mother.
He has represented Germany’s under-16s, under-17s and under-21s and helped the country to win the under-21 Euros last year.
He made his debut for the German senior team in a 6–0 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification win over Armenia on 5 September 2021, coming on as a late substitute and scoring his side’s sixth goal in the first minute of second-half injury time.
Adeyemi played as a youth for TSV Forstenried, and at the age of eight, then joined the local Bundesliga side FC Bayern München in 2010.
Due to an impasse in negotiating his continued stay at the club, there was a dispute and Adeyemi eventually had to leave the club, which meant that he joined SpVgg Unterhaching in 2012.
Prior to the 2018–19 season, Adeyemi was signed by Austrian club FC Red Bull Salzburg where he penned down a three-year contract.
On 10 May 2022, Adeyemi was announced to have joined Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund on a deal until the summer of 2027. Adeyemi is the third big signing for Borussia Dortmund who finally wants to challenge Bayern Munich again for the title.
Adeyemi arrives from Salzburg where he won three Austrian league and Cup titles each during a four-year spell. He has scored 22 goals in all competitions this season.
