Late Flight Lieutenant Alfred Anthony Duryumsu, bearing the service number NAF/4481, was a dedicated and accomplished officer within the Nigerian Air Force, leaving behind a legacy of service and excellence.
Born on February 19, 1995, in Dengi, he hailed from the Kanam Local Government Area of Plateau State. His journey in the Nigerian Air Force began when he was enlisted as a member of the Nigerian Defence Academy 64 Regular Course on September 22, 2012. Demonstrating his commitment and competence, he was commissioned as a Pilot Officer on September 16, 2017. His remarkable progress led to his promotion to the rank of Flight Lieutenant on September 22, 2022. He held a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, earned from the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna.
Flight Lieutenant Duryumsu’s pursuit of excellence extended to his continuous professional development. He underwent rigorous training, including Primary Flying Training at the 401 Flying Training School in Kaduna. He honed his skills further by completing the Flight Safety Officers’ Course at the Nigerian Air Force Institute of Safety in Kaduna. His dedication to aviation led him to attain Basic Helicopter Flying Training in the USA, where he gained valuable expertise. He continued to excel, participating in courses such as the MI-171 Helicopter Conversion Course, MI-171E Co-Pilot Training at 201 Composite Group in Bauchi, and the Air to Ground Integration Specialist and Qualification Course in Kaduna. His pursuit of knowledge extended internationally with the Air to Ground Tactical Communication Course at the Army War College Nigeria, Helicopter Instructor Pilot Training at the International Helicopter Flying School in Enugu, and MI-171E Recurrency Simulation Training in the Czech Republic.
Throughout his distinguished career, Late Flight Lieutenant Duryumsu held several significant roles. He served as a Student Pilot at the 401 Flying Training School, showcased his expertise at the 201 Composite Group in Bauchi, contributed to the 115 Special Operations Group, and demonstrated his commitment to safety and operational excellence as a squadron pilot and safety officer at the Nigerian Air Force Reference Hospital in Port Harcourt.
Notable for his brilliance, intelligence, and dedication, Flight Lieutenant Duryumsu consistently displayed strong leadership skills and initiative. His professionalism as a pilot was exceptional, and he actively engaged in various military operations, including Operations HADARIN DAJI, HADIN KAI, WHIRL PUNCH, and SAFE HAVEN, among others.
Aside from his remarkable career, he was a single individual with a zest for flying, reading, traveling, and badminton.
The passing of Late Flight Lieutenant Alfred Anthony Duryumsu is a tremendous loss felt deeply within the Nigerian Air Force and the nation at large. His gallantry, dedication, and contributions to the safety and security of Nigeria will be remembered and honored. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
