One-storey building under renovation has collapsed along Audu Bako Way in Kano State.
The incident, which happened on Wednesday morning, has been attributed to the use of inferior building materials.
Although there was no casualty, properties worth millions of naira were said to have been destroyed in the incident.
Auwal Rabi’u, a security man with one of the adjacent buildings, said he escaped being crushed by the collapsed building by the whiskers.
“This morning (Wednesday), I saw that they stopped work, ran a few meters away from the building and stood confused and the next thing, the building collapsed.”
Corroborating his statement, the head of the workers, Malam Rufa’i disclosed that they experienced some noise from the building when they started working in the morning.
He added that while they were not the builders in the first instance, they were only renovators who noticed something wrong and stopped working.
“We stopped the work and stayed back from the building. A few moments later the building collapsed,” he said.
Another woman identified as Blessing said she works at the saloon upstairs and no one had informed them of any renovation.
She added that 10 minutes after she left the shop, the building collapsed while destroying their properties.
