A multi-storey building, reportedly intended for use by the popular eatery Item7, collapsed on Sunday night during a torrential downpour and heavy storm in the Dugbe area of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
An eyewitness, Arugboboisi (@Arugboboisi_Sam) who shared the incident on X (formerly Twitter), said the debris from the collapsed structure fell across one lane of the busy Dugbe–Mokola Road, posing a serious hazard to motorists and other road users.
The collapse, which occurred amid worsening weather conditions, triggered immediate emergency response. Rescue teams and heavy-duty equipment were deployed swiftly to the scene to begin evacuation of the rubble and to ensure the road was cleared.
“We are urging everyone plying the Dugbe–Mokola axis from this evening till tomorrow (Monday) morning to slow down, drive with caution, and stay alert for diversions or emergency activity on the road,” Arugboboisi posted.
As of Monday morning, LEADERSHIP gathered that one lane of the dual carriageway remained closed to allow ongoing clearance work, while the other lane remained open to ease traffic as workers resumed their daily commute.
