Protests breaks out in Otukpo as gunmen continue deadly attacks on Benue community

Residents of Otukpo community in Benue State have stormed the streets to protest the ongoing killings and kidnappings in the state.
The residents, armed with placards and palm fronds, took to major streets of the city, chanting solidarity songs.
They accused the security agencies, especially the police, of complicity in the ongoing carnage in the town.
A community leader, while addressing the press, said the killings and kidnappings have been ongoing for a long time without any security personnel coming to their aid.
He stated that whenever gunmen invade the area, particularly Asa, the JEDC would cut off electricity.
They called on the state government, led by Hyacinth Alia, the police commissioner, the Inspector General of Police, and other security agencies to come to their aid.
They warned that they may be left with no option but to resort to self-defense.
IDOMA VOICE reports that residents of Olena in Asa community, Otukpo LGA of Benue State, have fled their homes following a series of attacks by suspected herdsmen.
The community has been under siege for the past four days, with several people killed and many others abducted.
At the moment, no official has addressed the protesters.
