A group of youths in Ondo State have protested at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Maitama, Abuja, following the removal of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Oluwatoyin Babalola.

The governorship election is set to take place on November 16, 2024, across the state.

A viral video on X captured the youths carrying drums and placards, singing and dancing as they demanded Babalola’s reinstatement.

Meanwhile, INEC announced that 55,859 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) have been collected in Ondo State in preparation for the upcoming election.

In a statement released on Tuesday by Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, it was noted that the PVCs were collected over a five-day period, representing 62.2% of the 89,777 available cards.

This marks the highest percentage of PVCs collected in such a short timeframe since the Continuous Voter Registration process was introduced in 2015.
