Rafiat Okewole: Popular businessman, Wole allegedly kills wife in Ogun

Rafiat Okewole, a 30-year-old woman, has sent shockwaves through Ota, Ogun State, as she reportedly lost her life after an altercation with her husband, Wole. The incident, which unfolded on Sunday, has left Okewole’s relatives grappling with grief, as the circumstances surrounding her sudden demise are being unraveled.

Rafiat Okewole had been residing separately from her husband, Wole, on Odelusi Street in the Ijoko area of Ota, despite their marital ties. The tragic event occurred during a visit by Okewole to her husband’s residence in the Gas Line area of Ijoko. Her purpose for the visit was to collect money for the upkeep of their children, further highlighting the strained nature of their relationship.

The disagreement between the couple took a tragic turn, reportedly resulting in Wole smashing Okewole’s head against the wall. Despite her efforts to secure financial support for their children, the encounter took a devastating toll on her.

Akinola Shittu, one of the deceased’s brothers, expressed his devastation, recounting the news he received from his elder brother. Shittu shared, “My elder brother called me on Sunday evening to inform me that Rafiat died… It was reported to him that Wole smashed her head against the wall of his house when she went to ask for money for the upkeep of their kids.”

Rafiat’s sister, Basirat Liasu, further shed light on the incident, noting that Okewole’s daughter was present during the altercation. Liasu revealed that Okewole’s daughter witnessed the harrowing event, recounting that her father had hit her mother’s head against the wall.

Yusuf, the deceased’s elder brother, recounted how he reported the matter to the authorities after learning of his sister’s tragic fate. “I rushed to the hospital at Ijoko but she was already dead, and I learnt that Wole was still boasting that nothing would happen to him after killing my sister,” Yusuf lamented.

Confirming the incident, Omolola Odutola, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, conveyed that Wole was in police custody. She detailed the events that led to the arrest, explaining that the altercation had left Okewole unconscious. Despite being rushed to a hospital in Ota, she was confirmed dead upon arrival.
